Okay, so the idea for a second single day event for 2011 has been agreed upon. Now, we need to set up the date and a catchy name for the event. Milo had posted "Backwater Brawl". Not a big fan of it. My idea, stealing the name "A Feast For Crows" was already taken, so, we're here to come up with a name.

If we really want to sick with the Brawl in the name, howabout the "Brawl in the Fall". But honestly, the first event name was really straightforward, so now I'd rather we had something colorful and totally metal.

what if we focused on the revolution aspect of it...battle for texas decided who won, now this one resets us back to default...?

i'm pretty terrible about names honestly...

So, something having to do with the revenge of the side that lost? Damn you, Michael Bay, for using up the name "Revenge of the Fallen".

non sequitur: "There only one Return, and it is 'of the Jedi'".

how about The Runaway Scrape?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Revolution#Texian_retreat:_.22The_Runaway_Scrape.22

it was a "battle" or retreat during the texas revolution where houston took his army and ran, denying santa anna battle until houston could regroup and refit...

i think something like this would be a cool way to lead us right back to the Battle for Texas 2012

thoughts?

I dunno, man. While I think sticking with the historical aspect is awesome, I kind of dig Abi's suggestion of the "Third Coast Throwdown". What do you think of that?

Right now we are looking at roughly the last half of September or October. I kind of like October, maybe bring in some Halloween atmosphere, plus it'll be a bit cooler, making it more enjoyable for the armor wearers. The average temps for October are 81 for the high and 60 for the low, versus September with a high of 90 and a low of 69. But, October does have a higher rainfall total. Basically, when it comes to rain, it is a dice roll, but October looks like the 2nd wettest month of the year for rainfall. But, I still like October.

bromhir, i speak only the truth...

early october works for me...plus it allows us to tempt out of staters and guys like whisper down...

now, let's talk about battles

One thing I really want to see is a four team battle with forts and flags…say one hour, four forts where you can only enter through one big front door (and optionally one additional small side door) to take the flag…rez would be a central location for all, winner is the team with the most flags…all flags must be brought back to a fort, any flags in a fort are up for grabs…

This could lead to some alliances, some tactics…who stays to defend who rolls out to capture…stuff like that

I’d also like to have something going on during the whole thing for garb…say we take an additional dollar at the door and you sign a sheet and we gather all the photogs together, buy them plenty of batteries and give them a part of the list…tell them they NEED to get one good action shot and one good garb shot of these people…I dunno, I just think we should promote good garb somehow…

I’ll leave the tourney to those who know better…

Believe me Milo.....I will have more to prove to any of the Dagorhirrim than anyone, being that I have been a A-Gamer since '93. Very Happy
Because everyone knows we Amtgarders can't give a good thump, right Izec? Laughing

So what are we looking at as for walls and do we want them to be solid or do we want them to be made of tarps?

Give me an idea and I will see what I can make happen.

Bromhir

We once ran Grimsword gate battle using bamboo fencing for walls. It was fairly easy to set up (you just bang in some rebar into the ground and tie the ends of the fencing to it) and it was tall enough that you couldn't see or fight through it. It was Joe's idea and his fence, so I'll talk to him and see how much that ran. 4 different bases will cost more money in fencing, obviously.

Given that we will be using the public Bartholomew park and only fighting for one day we don't want to bring in heavy structures. Hey Bromhir, how tall are the tarps? Maybe that would be a better way to go.

Regarding other games, I really would like this event to focus on unit based fighting. I'd like to have a field battle, but restrict the area somewhat to hopefully promote more of a line style battle instead of the skirmishing type we normally do because we have so much room.

As for the tournament, I was thinking single elimination with 4 man teams. The teams would consist of 1 red user, 1 Blue n Boarder, 1 Dual Blue, and 1 open weapon. Teams may have alternates, but those alternates cannot be on another team. Any equipment your team mates drop you may pick up (shields, swords) but the opposing team may not pick up. The goal is to have the last man standing on each lay-on to win that lay-on, and I am thinking the team with the best 2 out of 3 lay-ons moves on. I'm still debating about projectiles. The area will be limited, but it should allow for projectiles, especially thrown ones; so, javelins and rocks may be okay but I'm thinking bows may be too much. I'll have to give it some thought.

As for the garb stuff, Milo, you'll have to explain that to me in person. Essentially, since this event is going to be your baby we can run it how you like. You want to promote more and better garb, go for it.

This above is what I am talking about...........

It is made with cement filled coffee cans that have a piece of rebar in it to post pvc on. The walls are made of tarp, which you buy the biggest cheapest tarp and cut it to whatever size you need it to be. You can then use it in many different applications such as creating different terrian such as pitfalls, deep water, quick sand or the such.

As for what Milo is saying, I believe he would like to see those that actually get all garbed up get some bennies for garbing up. Which I agree with wholeheartedly.

we wouldn't have to do anything so complex as make walls, we could just lay rope to act as the wall and say anyone fighting over or through it is dead...that way we could save some cash, some time and all that...

For projectiles you can always do non-reusables. That way as soon as one hits the ground it is dead and it makes people think about their shots more before throwing that rock/jav or shooting their arrows...

I understand all that.....but as of right now, I am a stay at home dad and have time on my hands. (Garb, weapons and the such in the make)

Plus due to happenings in the A-game, I feel that my skills would be better appreciated by those who are like minded in making it more than a bunch of "weirdos" hitting each other with foam bats. Very Happy

Plus it doesn't have to be that complex to start out, just making four gate like openings makes the difference.

The offer is there.....either way I plan on making it to 3rd Coast Beatdown in Oct, and offer any assistance I can. Very Happy

heh heh, I just caught that, Bromy. Funny thing is, a lot of the perception up north is that the Amtgarders are "tappy" fighters with light hits. But the few Dagorhir peeps I know who have visited us from up north say we thump pretty good, and I remember Casimir saying that every Amtgard person he has fought hits plenty damn hard. Guess that's just how we Texans do it.

Regarding the walls and such, I'll talk to the Hammer boys this weekend to see what they think about tarps versus bamboo walls. The bamboo is prettier, but I'm guessing it will be many times pricier. Rope walls are okay, but having an actual physical and visual restriction works much better, imo. And any help and experience you lend will be much appreciated, Bromhir. Trust me, Milo, Bromhir is a solid, stand up guy, and his help is invaluable.

As for the date, I say we just make it Saturday, October 8th, so that it lines up with the normal Grimsword calendar fight day. But that final call is going to be yours, Milo.

And Thorondor, that's an awesome suggestion with the projectiles. I'll definitely keep it in mind.

So, after checking the Dag board thread for the 3rd Coast Throwdown, it seems the Clan Malice folks along with the other Houston peeps wouldn't be able to attend it if we have the event coincide with the Texas Ren Fest. I still would want the event to take place on one of Grim Sword's normally scheduled fight days, so maybe we should push it forward to Saturday, September 24th. Thoughts?
