Patterns for Garb

Post  Diabolus Vile on Wed Mar 18, 2009 1:55 am

Does anyone have sites or patterns for different types of garb, particularly medieval/crusades era? I'm looking to make a crusader's tunic similar to those ones you always see the Templars wearing. Also any other sites or patterns would be neat to see so I can get some ideas.

First off, I'm no expert when it comes to garb. I'm not even a novice. My criteria for garb is that it be comfortable and look kind of historical and I'm the bane of the people who demand historical accuracy.

So, I think a simple tabard would be fine, though a basic T-tunic would be nicer. If you want that historical accuracy then I can't really offer much help.

simple tabard: http://www.reddawn.net/costume/tabard.htm

basic t-tunic: http://www.forest.gen.nz/Medieval/articles/Tunics/TUNICS.HTML

more misc patterns: http://www.dragonbear.com/pennlink.html#garb

I also found this page, where this SCA guy seems to be particular about accuracy:

Good luck!

I'm not too intense about accuracy, I also just want it to be comfortable and look good. Cool I just asked about the period garb because I'm having a real difficult time for some reason finding a pattern for the generic crusader's tunic. Lookin at the links as I post.

Haha, he linked our forums accidentally it would appear. I will see what site he was talking about. In the mean time, I could find you some pictures of some Dag members in their goblin garb if you wanted to look at that.

If you don't mind spending a little money on a pattern, go to your local Wal-mart or fabrics store and look at the patterns for costumes. McCalls and Simplicity both have patterns that are reasonably accurate and still easy to make and comfortable.
